چکیده

A prism-shaped monolithic Fabry-Perot resonator is shown to allow absorption measurements of liquid samples in the terahertz wave range. As the radiation source a backward-wave oscillator was chosen for its tunable, highly monochromatic, continuous wave. The resonator is made of high-resistivity silicon, with two surfaces acting as partial mirrors and forming the cavity, while a third one contributes with a total internal reflection. When a liquid sample is placed on this latter surface the total reflection is attenuated and the finesse of the resonator decreases, providing absorption information about the sample. The measurement method relying on Fourier processing of the signal, as well as experimental data are presented. © 2005 American Institute of Physics. fDOI: 10.1063/1.1968423g

Accurate determination of terahertz optical constants by vector network analyzer of Fabry-Perot response.

We present a method based on a Fabry-Perot model to efficiently and accurately estimate optical constants of wafer samples in transmission-only measurements performed by a vector network analyzer (VNA). The method is demonstrated on two separate wafer samples: one of silicon and the other of polymethylmethacrylate. Results show that the method can not only acquire optical constants accurately a...

ساختار مد طولی برای تشدیدگر حلقوی ناهم سطح

The structure of longitudinal modes of a passively Q-switched, non-planar unidirectional ring-resonator,with Nd:YAG active medium is described in this article. Two different techniques are used to study the longitudinal mode structure of the laser resonator. At first, the fast-fourier transform technique is applied for analyzing the mode beating of the optical fields by intensity frequency str...

Highly selective terahertz optical frequency comb generator.

Using a 10.5-GHz resonant electro-optic modulator placed inside a resonant optical cavity, we generated an optical frequency comb with a span wider than 3 THz. The optical resonator consists of three mirrors, with the output coupler being a thin Fabry-Perot cavity with a free spectral range of 2 THz and a finesse of 400. Tuning this filter cavity onto resonance with a particular high-order side...

New photon density rate equation for Fabry-Perot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers

Two different approaches are commonly used for Fabry-Perot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (FP SOAs) performance analysis: the Fabry-Perot resonator approach and rate equation approach. Compared with the Fabry-Perot resonator approach, the rate equation approach is more powerful because noise and mode-related performance analysis can be included. However, it has been shown that the results bas...

Characterization of scattering in an optical Fabry-Perot resonator.

Roughness-induced scattering affects the performance of a resonator. We study the scattering of a single mirror first and compare the result with the losses of a two-mirror Fabry-Perot resonator. Besides some standard tools to characterize the losses, a new method based on the spectrally averaged transmission is introduced.
